Repp Tie
The repp tie as we know it originated in 1800s England,
where it was worn and popularized in schools

As integral to the preppy lifestyle as the navy blazer and oxford shirt, the repp tie has earned its place in the library of Ralph Lauren Classics. Although easily recognizable because of its iconic stripes, which traditionally slope downward diagonally, it is actually defined by and named for the tightly woven silk fabric with tight ribbing used to make it.

The repp tie as we know it originated in 1800s England, where it was worn and popularized in schools. Institutions adopted official colors that were featured prominently on the ties in contrasting stripes to identify where students came from, as well as their membership in certain clubs. By the 1920s, the tie was introduced to America, where Ivy League schools incorporated it as part of their uniforms.
