MUST-HAVES
The Standout Swim Trunk

Updated with vibrant colors and bold prints, this summer
essential is guaranteed to make a splash

Hitting the beach or the pool? Make sure you have the right trunk. It’s a summertime staple for every man, but not everyone should wear the same type. To be truly beach- or pool-worthy, a trunk needs to have the correct balance of style and utility that can work for whatever level of activity you have in store. A board short will provide coverage when you are playing volleyball, waterskiing or surfing, and a basic swim short is more suitable for kicking back.

Fit is also important; your swim trunk should be roomy enough to be comfortable but also cut at an age-appropriate length. (As a general rule, your trunk’s inseam should get shorter as you get older, eventually stopping around mid-thigh.) When it comes to colors and patterns, the options this season are limitless. Go for a bright solid hue or floral print if you want to make a statement on the sand, or try a striped design in a darker, maritime-inspired palette if your style is more subdued. Unlike with other summer apparel, the only accessories you really need to go along with your trunk are a beach towel and sandy feet.
