MUST-HAVES
The Cargo Short

Initially designed strictly for utility, this summer staple adds
a rugged touch to all your favorite ensembles

The cargo short may have been born out of a need for functionality, but that doesn’t mean you must have rock climbing on your agenda in order to wear it. It’s easy to mix the short into your everyday look and achieve casual, rugged style. Case in point: Take the classic, preppy combo of a sport shirt and chino short. Now sub in a khaki-hued cargo short for the chino.

The result is a clean-cut ensemble with a laid-back look—especially when worn with a boat shoe or loafer. Or wear a camo-print version of the short with a white polo for a similar effect. Just keep in mind that the length of your cargo is important, too. Because the pockets visually add bulk, the short you choose should be long enough to balance out your frame; have it hit at the knee or an inch above.
