Combine rustic patterns, athletic-inspired details and bright-colored performance layers to achieve the perfect rugged style for fall

Just because summer is coming to an end doesn’t mean your days spent outdoors have to, as well. In fact, the average temperature during this time of year—not too hot, not too cold—is optimal for a range of activities. But whether you’re going for a hike or spending the weekend camping, you’ll need to be prepared for any variations in the weather. The best way to do so is by having the right mix of layers on hand. When technical gear is combined with rugged sportswear, the result is outdoorsy apparel that’s as functional as it is stylish.

Your everyday denim—or cargo pant—does just as well on the mountain as it does in the city, and it pairs easily with anything from a rugby shirt to a technical jacket. A puffer vest, especially one in a bright color, looks cool and is streamlined enough to provide warmth without being bulky. The accessories you choose are also important, and utility is key. A bag made from nylon will dry quickly if it gets wet, and a leather boot with a durable sole will give you sure footing on any terrain you encounter. Top it all off with sunglasses featuring a wraparound frame and mirrored lenses. The style is both sporty and modern, and most importantly, the eyewear will stay securely on your face while you’re active.
