Oeko-Tex standard
One of the world's leading eco labels for textiles, an international testing and certification system for textiles developed in 1992 to limit the use of certain chemicals.
 
 
Oilcloth
A durable fabric, usually cotton, that has been coated with oil for a waterproof finish.
 
 
Ombré
From the French for "shaded", a term used to describe a gradual change in color shade from light to dark.
 
 
Organdy
A very sheer and crisp cotton fabric typically used for collars, cuffs, blouses and interfacing.
 
 
Organic cotton
Cotton grown on fallow fields where the soil is free of all artificial pesticides or insecticides.
 
 
Organza
A thin, stiff fabric usually made from silk, rayon or nylon.
 
 
Oxford
A soft, basket-woven cotton primarily used as a shirting fabric. First woven by a Scottish mill, oxford cloth was one of four fabrics named after famous universities; Harvard, Yale and Cambridge cloth never became as popular.
