Sateen
A type of fabric weave that produces a smooth, glossy, lustrous surface. This construction is often used to add shine to fibers like cotton and silk.
Satin
A luxurious silk fabric known for its high luster.
Screen print
A picture or design printed on a garment using the silk-screen process.
Sea Island cotton
Grown in the West Indies and off the coast of the southeastern United States, one of the longest cotton fibers in the world known for it's superior strength, softness and luster.
Seed stitch
A type of embroidery stitch that resembles a small continuous pattern of seeds.

Soutache
A flat narrow braid used as decorative trim on women's clothing.
Spazzolato
A high-gloss leather that's shinier than calf but not as glossy as patent.
Specchio
From the Italian for "mirror", a metallic leather.
Stacked heel
A heel built up of slim horizontal layers, usually wood or leather.
Stanton collar
An open spread collar that does not button down.
Stonewashed
Often used on denim, a washing process that uses abrasive stones to achieve a soft finish.
Suede
The softer side of leather that has been buffed for a velvet-like feel.
Surplice
A crossover V-neckline.
Swiss dot
A small dot pattern woven or embroidered on a very lightweight fabric.
